Biodiversity Definitions and Compliance Analysis

About the Project:

The project aims to evaluate the scientific consistency and adequacy of biodiversity definitions in relation to the objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). This internship involves analyzing biodiversity indicators, examining national reports submitted under the CBD, and assessing compliance with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework 2030 goals to identify and report any scientific inconsistencies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collect and review National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) or equivalent reports from multiple countries.
• Extract and document definitions of biodiversity from each report.
• Compare these definitions to the CBD’s official definition and note variations.
• Analyze the degree of alignment between the biodiversity definitions and the 2030 biodiversity targets, such as the “30 by 30” conservation goal and ecosystem restoration objectives.
• Summarize findings in a detailed report, including a compliance assessment for each country.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to extract and synthesize information from complex documents.
• Excellent written communication skills for preparing clear and concise reports.
• Familiarity with the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework is a plus.
• Proficiency in English.

Compensation:

This is a paid internship, with a monthly compensation of 660 euros.
