The aim of this project is to foster collaboration in the domain of mathematical philosophy between researchers at the Institute of Cognitive Studies (IEC) and leading research centers in Europe.

Mathematical philosophy consists in the use of formal methods taken from different disciplines (computer science, formal semantics, mathematical logic, probability theory) to elucidate questions belonging to different fields of philosophy, most centrally problems in epistemology, philosophy of science, philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, decision theory and rationality.

At IEC, research in mathematical philosophy is done both at the IHPST (within the logic and decision and rationality groups) and at the Institut Jean Nicod (in areas ranging from philosophy of mind and language to linguistics). In Europe, the Center for Mathematical Philosophy at LMU in Munich will be one of IJN main partners.
