Data-driven circuit models reveal the dynamics of consensus across visual areas in mice

The neocortex is organized into functionally specialized areas. W= hile the functions and underlying neural circuitry of individual neocortica= l areas are well studied, it is unclear how these regions operate collectiv= ely to form percepts and implement cognitive processes. In particular, it r=emains unknown how distributed, potentially conflicting computations can be= reconciled. Here we show that the reciprocal excitatory connections betwee= n cortical areas orchestrate neural dynamics to facilitate the gradual emer= gence of a =E2=80=98consensus=E2=80=99 across areas.

Speech Intelligibility in Noise: Perception and Prediction Models

Topic: In noisy environments, our ability to spatially separate the voice we are trying to understand from competing sound sources can significantly improve intelligibility. This spatial unmasking is based on binaural listening, meaning we use both ears rather than the monaural signal in only one ear. Numerous models exist for predicting speech intelligibility. These models are crucial tools for evaluating and developing hearing aids and cochlear implants that restore some audibility to deaf people. They are also necessary to improve building accessibility for people with hearing impairments.

Does absence perception plead in favour of the rich content view ?

This paper brings together two lively debates within philosophy of perception, namely, the perceivability of absences and the range of perceptual content. My argument is based on the idea that, if absences are truly perceivable, as I claim to be the case, then the Conservative View about perceptual content is false. First, I briefly present the current debate on absence experience, outlining the three main views that have been advanced, namely the Cognitive, the Meta-Cognitive, and the Perceptual View.
