Abstract : Humans and animals are equipped with a rich innate repertoire of cognitive and behavioral skills. Yet, the developmental programs that establish the underlying neural structures are unknown. During early development, neural connectivity is often shaped by molecular programs that connect neurons based on the affinity between presynaptic receptors and postsynaptic ligands.
Abstract: Association cortex is organized into multiple juxtaposed large-scale distributed networks that support higher-order cognition in humans, including language and cognitive control. A prominent view holds that these networks become less segregated, or reorganize, in healthy aging and after brain injury. In this talk, I will argue that this apparent reorganization may instead partly reflect the loss of each individual's idiosyncratic network topography when adjacent networks measured with fMRI are averaged across individuals.

Economic decisions observed in the laboratory fail to conform to normative principles in a variety of respects. Among others, they are not even consistent with fixed preferences from trial to trial; in this respect, choices (for example, between simple gambles) resemble perceptual judgments. In this talk, I explore the possibility that some of the departures from normative choice behavior result from choices being based on imprecise semantic representations of the numbers used to specify monetary payoffs.
How the brain consolidates auditory memories during sleep remains poorly understood. A key open question is whether the hippocampus contributes to this process via sharp-wave ripple (SWR) events, the fast oscillatory sequences that drive memory replay in spatial tasks, or whether auditory cortex operates through distinct, cortex-intrinsic mechanisms. Addressing this question requires combining large-scale recordings across the auditory system and hippocampus with reliable vigilance-state monitoring.
