This group's focus is on structures and meaning, which are studied from a linguistic, logical, philosophical, and experimental perspective.
The aim is to understand the rules governing linguistic forms and the rules by which speakers assign truth conditions to sentences (syntax/semantics interface, model-theoretic semantics); how these rules interact with reasoning (pragmatics); what are the proper conceptual and formal foundations to understand them (philosophy of language, logic); and how these rules are realized in the mind/brain (psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics).

Interventional NeuroPsychological Team (NPI), INSERM U955 E01, is a mixed research unit (INSERM, UPEC, ENS), directed by Prof. Anne-Catherine Bachoud-Lévi.

The NPI team works at the interface in between fundamental research on human communication and clinical research on novel brain therapies.

Two main issues are investigated:

The LSCP is an UMR CNRS-ENS-EHESS. The aim of research at LSCP is to understand the psychological mechanisms underlying the acquisition and functioning of cognitive functions that are typically human, such as language, social cognition, and consciousness.

The LSCP is organized into six research teams:

The Laboratoire de Neurosciences Cognitives intends to shed light on the biological foundations of human mental functions and their eventual degradations in neurological and neuropsychiatric diseases. This research is based on experimental psychology, computational modelling and neuroimaging. The Laboratoire de Neurosciences Cognitives is composed of five teams: Frontal Lobe Functions Group, Group for Neural Theory, Visual Cognition Group, Social Cognition group, Economic Decision-Making Group.

The Institut Jean Nicod is a multidisciplinary CNRS research unit created in 2002, with two university-level affiliations: the Ecole normale supérieure (ENS) and the Ecole des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS). It is a cognitive science laboratory with about eighty members, of whom half are doctoral students, the other half including about fifteen researchers attached to the CNRS, along with teacher- researchers and post-doctoral associates.
